I am just starting with Alice; I share with you my first video, which took me longer than expected to create. Alice is a 3D environment for creating animations. Like Scratch (here is a link to my first animations in Scratch), it is a tool used to teach introductory computer programming. Alice has been reported to engage the interest of more girls because of it’s story-telling capacity, but I’m not so sure about this from my personal experiences with students. The tools are object-oriented, Java-like ’tiles’ that the user can create independently, and then arrange. It has more capabilities than Scratch, but it’s not as user friendly (reminds me a lot of Maya). I am just finishing with Scratch with some middle schoolers, moving on to a new middle school, teaching them Alice, starting 2/1. Stay tuned to see how the kids take to it!

a blue bird! 🙂
It reminds me how much effort you have to put in even simple animation 😉
The information technology TEACHER AT THE School I WORKED AT INTRODUCED Alice TO MY SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS. ALTHOUGH NOT PROFICIENT, THEY ENJOYED WORKING WITH THE REPETITIVE ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM
