Critical Teaching Skill 2 of 5: Facilitation
The term “teach” can sometimes be misconstrued as a top-down, teacher-centered traditional paradigm. But, learners are not empty vessels that teachers can just fill with facts; facts won’t be remembered unless the learner finds the facts themselves. Hopefully Charlie Brown’s teacher is long gone! A truly excellent teacher is a facilitator of learning, providing a safe constructivist environment with prescribed rules for learners to collaboratively problem-solve, explore, express, and learn.
